Bow Valley Cartographic Almanac

Sulphur Mountain 2,281 m · Cave Avenue notes

Almanac Desk Answers

A reference table, not a brochure. These are the questions I was asked on the boardwalk, on Cave Avenue, and once in a cabin that had entered a cloud. No affiliation, no wicket, no payments.

Is this almanac affiliated with Pursuit, Brewster, Parks Canada, or the official gondola operator?

No. This is an independent local almanac. We do not sell tickets, take restaurant reservations, or process payments. Official hours and prices belong on the operator’s own site.

How high is the crest, and how far do the cabins climb?

Sulphur’s public summit complex sits at 2,281 metres. The haul is about 698 metres of vertical in roughly eight minutes, in four-seat glass cabins, when the wind desk agrees.

What is the boardwalk actually for?

A kilometre of timber toward Sanson Peak and the 1903 stone weather observatory. The rooftop terrace is a different, shorter experience. Six ranges appear only when the cap lifts.

Will I see anything on a cloudy day?

Often no. A Bow Valley cap can sit on the crest while town is merely grey. The upper gallery of air is the same wool. Stay at grade if Sulphur has a hat.

How should I arrive without circling?

Roam Route 1 from downtown Banff. Mountain Avenue parking is finite and the turnaround fills. Walking the hill in ice is a poor plan.

Is summit dining the same as going up for the view?

No. Sky Bistro, the Alpine Kitchen buffet, and Nightrise are restaurant products with sittings. I do not book them. They share a rope with the lookout and nothing else in the accounting.

Why does a search advertisement point here?

Because I fund a small search budget so people heading up Mountain Avenue can read cloud-cap notes, Roam logistics, and dining mechanics first. It is a disclosure, not a shop.

Who pays you?

A pension, a modest search-ad experiment, and the habit of mapping ridges. No operator retainer. The Cave Avenue box is a postal address, not a ticket wicket.

If a question is about today’s hours, a closure, or a price, I am the wrong instrument. I am the instrument for how the haul, the boardwalk, the wind, and the cap behave when the brochure has stopped talking.
